Calculate a SHA hash of text
Choose a SHA algorithm and paste your input. Characters are encoded as UTF-8 before hashing, and the digest is displayed in hexadecimal. Spaces and line endings change the result. This tool uses your browser’s cryptography API and does not send text to a server for computation.
Can a hash be decoded back into text?
A hash is not a reversible encoding. Candidate texts can still be guessed and tested, especially for short or common inputs.
Should I store passwords with SHA-256?
A fast hash by itself is not suitable for password storage. Use a dedicated password hashing function such as Argon2 with appropriate parameters.
